Are Your Goals Dying in Your Pretty Planner?
It's January 7th already! WOAH! Happy 2025!
Before the year goes further, let's have an honest conversation about those shiny new year goals you've written down. You know the ones that are probably sitting in that gorgeous new planner you bought, written in your best handwriting, maybe even decorated with some inspiring stickers.
But here's the truth that nobody's talking about: A goal without action is just a wish wearing fancy clothes.
We've all been there, haven't we? The pristine vision board perfectly crafted, goals beautifully written, plans meticulously made, intentions set, and your word of the year chosen with care. And then... February happens... before you know it, it's December an you're trying to assess what you actually got done.
When we talk about goals, we often skip over the uncomfortable truths. That workout plan means nothing until your shoes hit the road. That business dream remains just a dream until you send that first terrifying email. Your writing aspirations stay in the realm of fantasy until your fingers meet the keyboard. That savings goal is merely numbers until you actively decline that unnecessary purchase.
I'm guilty as charged. In fact, I have a goal I wrote since 2019 to achieve in 2020. 5 years later and it's still a goal that sounds beautiful.
Want to know why most goals stay goals? Because we fall in love with the destination but want to skip the journey. We yearn for success without embracing the struggle, crave growth while avoiding the growing pains, desire results without committing to repetition, chase achievement while fearing awkward beginnings, and pursue victory while shying away from vulnerable moments.
What truly turns a goal into reality isn't the perfect plan – it's the imperfect action. It's not about the major moves, but the micro-moments. Success comes not from giant leaps, but from tiny, consistent steps. It's never about motivation; it's always about movement. Not intention, but implementation.
The Reality Check We All Need
Here's a truth that might sting: Your goals don't care about how pretty your planner is, how aesthetic your vision board looks, how many motivational quotes you've saved, how clear your visualization is, or how strong your intention feels. Your goals respond to one thing and one thing only: Action!!
Let's break this down into real, tangible steps. Instead of merely saying "I want to start a business," register your domain name today. Draft one social media post. Send one pitch email. Create one product outline. Make one business connection.
When you say "I want to get healthy," start by packing tomorrow's lunch tonight. Schedule your next workout like it's a client meeting. Prep your gym bag and put it by the door. Make one better food choice at your next meal. Take a 10-minute walk on your next break.
When you take immediate action, something magical happens. You break the paralysis of perfectionism. You build momentum before motivation has a chance to fade. You create tangible evidence of your commitment. You make progress before doubt can creep in. You start becoming before overthinking can take hold.
The Permission to Start Messy
Give yourself permission to take imperfect action. Start before you feel ready. Make mistakes while moving forward. Learn while doing. Grow through going. The path doesn't need to be perfect; it just needs to be started.
The secret sauce of action-takers? They don't wait for the perfect moment, the right feeling, the clear path, the complete plan, or the confident mindset. They just start. Then they figure it out along the way.
Here's my challenge to you: Take one action toward your goal RIGHT NOW. Not after reading another self-help book, not after watching another motivation video, not after creating another plan, not after setting another intention. Now. Today. This hour. This minute.
What I've learned about goals and action is simple but profound: The perfect time is a myth. The right moment is now. The clear path comes from walking. The confidence comes from doing. The clarity comes from action.
Your Next Step
Look at your goals right now. Pick one. Just one. Ask yourself: What's the smallest possible action you can take toward this goal? What can you do in the next 5 minutes? What tiny step would move you forward? What quick action would build momentum? What small start would make this real?
Then do it. Before finishing this blog. Before closing this tab. Before your brain comes up with reasons why you should wait.
The truth about action is beautiful in its simplicity: Small steps create big changes. Tiny moves make major momentum. Little actions lead to lasting transformation. Simple starts spark significant shifts. Minor movements manifest major magic.
Let me know in the comments or message me on social media, What ONE action are you taking right now – not tomorrow, not later, but RIGHT NOW – toward your biggest goal? Let's make this the year where our dreams meet our done.
PS: To the one reading this while thinking "I'll start tomorrow" – tomorrow is where dreams go to die. Your moment is now. Take that first tiny step.
